Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy in
conjunction with the
regionally engaged citizens of
Mynisha’s Circle
will be hosting the First Annual Young
Visionaries Youth Excellence Awards on Friday, May 25,
2007, from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm at California State
University, San Bernardino. This is an extraordinary
event being held for a grand cause as it is an overdue
celebration of youth achievement and perseverance,
and a well-deserved tribute to youth excellence.
In
addition to honoring the adults working on their behalf.
Our goals for the Awards Gala are simple, but bold:  to publicly acknowledge the accomplishments
of youth who exemplify the characteristics of future leaders and shine a light on the
positive
efforts of our community youth; while honoring the lives of Mynisha Crenshaw and a plethora of
other children whom we lost too soon to senseless violence. Also to raise awareness and
promote greater participation in regional dialogue on youth safety and, by doing so, to
strengthen the Youth Excellence movement locally and nationally, and inspire the nation’s youth
to excel. In addition, the funds generated from this fabulous affair will contribute directly to
violence prevention, leadership, enrichment and structured after school programs which will
continue to promote Youth Excellence throughout San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

During a groundswell of support we were fortunate to attract, Mynisha’s Circle champion,
43rd
District U.S. Congressman Joe Baca
to offer the keynote address, as well as, local superwoman,
California State Assembly Member Wilmer Amina Carter to be a featured speaker. The
theme/focus of the Young Visionaries Youth Excellence Awards will be
“Today’s Excellence Building
A Better Tomorrow.”
On this night the first Young Visionaries Youth Excellence Awards will be
presented to youth who have excelled in the face of adversity and who have exhibited excellence
in Young Visionaries Leadership Programs, and to two (2) community members who have
displayed outstanding leadership in working on behalf of youth excellence. Also, the First Mynisha
Scholarship Awards will be presented to recognize youth working toward a better tomorrow and
to help them in realizing that dream. There will also be dinner, a silent auction, a live jazz band,
special celebrity guests, and special sponsor acknowledgements.
